anthropic lance Claude Haiku 5.5, a new version of its lighter artificial intelligence model with much higher performance than Haiku 4.5 and a very low cost of use. The company now charges $0.10 per million tokens for input and $0.50 for output for requests of less than 100,000 tokens.

Big improvements for Claude Haiku 5.5

Haiku 5.5 thus completes Claude’s new range after the recent launches of Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5. Anthropic is primarily intended for massive processing where speed and cost matter as much as quality, such as classification, data extraction, summarization, database queries, or wizards capable of performing tasks continuously.

Anthropic especially highlights the advances made in so-called agentic uses. In the benchmarks, Claude Haiku 5.5 obtains for example 72.4% in OSWorld 2.1, a test dedicated to the use of a computer, compared to only 15.7% for Haiku 4.5. In Terminal-Bench 4.0, dedicated to complex command line tasks, it also goes from 0% to 39.2%.

The model also has for the first time a setting to control the effort dedicated to reasoning. Anthropic therefore offers various levels of effort to favor speed or deeper analysis depending on the difficulty of the task. Claude Haiku 5.5 also maintains a context window of up to 1 million tokens.

This increase in power brings the model closer to tasks until now associated with more expensive models in the range. Anthropic in particular presents Claude Haiku 5.5 as a candidate to function as a subagent alongside Opus 5.5 or Sonnet 5.5, taking care of repetitive operations while the main model takes care of more complex tasks.

The price becomes the other big argument

The other significant change is the drop in prices. Anthropic estimates that Claude Haiku 5.5 costs about 75% less on average than Haiku 4.5. The rate of $0.10 per million input tokens applies up to 100,000 tokens. Beyond that, the price increases to $0.50, while production increases from $0.50 to $2.50 per million tokens.

Anthropic is also taking advantage of the release to halve the price of reading the Sonnet 5.5 cache, which should reduce the cost of many agent treatments by around 20%. The company is finally adding monthly API credits for Max and Team subscribers to make it easier to build agents and apps using Claude.

Claude Haiku 5.5 is now available from Claude on the web, as well as on Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, under the identifier claude-haiku-5-5.
