As I write these lines, the site lists more than 30,000 locations in 189 countries and associated with more than 23,000 movies, series, video games, anime and manga. Needless to say, there is plenty to have a good time exploring all of this.

You can move freely around the map, zoom in on a city or country and click on different points to see what movies and series were filmed there. But you can also search directly for the name of a movie or series to find its different filming locations.

We find in particular Lough Tay, in Ireland, where the scenes in Kattegat were filmed, the fictional town where Ragnar and his family live (for those who know).
Filters to explore the map as you wish
With over 30,000 referenced locations, the map is sure to be full. Therefore, Movie Scene Map offers several filters to do a little bit of sorting and show only what interests you.
For example, you can choose between movies, series, video games, anime and manga, but also filter locations by type: studios and settings, castles and palaces, monuments and buildings, streets and squares, landscapes and nature or even cities and towns.
It is also possible to select a release period or play with the level of notoriety of the productions. This can be useful if you prefer to search for filming locations of big movies instead of coming across completely unknown productions. Up to you.
And it’s not just about movies and series.
Movie Scene Map is not limited to movies and series. The site is also interested in video games, anime and manga.
Obviously, we are no longer talking about filming locations here. In the case of video games, you can find, for example, real places that appear in certain games or that have served as inspiration for you to create their settings. The same goes for anime and manga.
Once again, simply select what you’re interested in in the filters and explore the map.
SceneGuessr, a GeoGuessr for movies and series
Movie Scene Map also offers a little game called SceneGuessr. The beginning is necessarily reminiscent of GeoGuessr, except that here it is your knowledge of movies and series that will be put to the test.
In each round, the site gives you the name of a movie or series and you must search the map to see where it was filmed. Once your choice is validated, SceneGuessr shows you the correct location and the distance between you and it. Obviously the goal is to land as close as possible.
The daily challenge takes place over five rounds. At the end of the game, you find the distance obtained for each answer and your total distance in all five rounds. And if five rounds aren’t enough for you, an “Endless” mode allows you to continue playing without limits.
Small detail I noticed while testing it: the game only seems accessible from the English version of Movie Scene Map. So consider changing the site language if you want to try it out.
