Samsung could alter your plans for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. According to the Seoul Economic DailyPrototypes equipped with Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 would encounter temperature issues during internal testing. Qualcomm is currently working with Samsung to fix this overheating before the launch of the next generation Galaxy S.

5GHz Snapdragon faces speedup

Introduced in September, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is Qualcomm’s most ambitious mobile chip. Recorded at 2nm, it notably includes two Oryon cores capable of reaching 5GHz and relies heavily on locally executed AI.

But this power would have a thermal cost. During prolonged charging, the temperature would exceed the limits set by Samsung, thus causing constrictionthat is, an automatic reduction of frequencies to protect the smartphone. The South Korean manufacturer reported the problem to Qualcomm in September and demanded a quick improvement.

The Exynos 2700 could even return in the Ultra model

If Qualcomm does not meet Samsung’s requirements, theExynos 2700 then it would become a credible alternative. This chip, also recorded in 2nm, will succeed the Exynos 2600 currently used in the European Galaxy S26 and S26+. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is still equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

A transition from the future Ultra to the Exynos would be particularly symbolic: Samsung no longer uses its own chip in this version since the Galaxy S22 Ultra in 2022. The Galaxy S25 even adopted the Snapdragon across the range.

However, nothing has been decided yet. Qualcomm would still be the preferred option if the thermal problems are corrected, but this time, Samsung has a real alternative solution, enough to perhaps reshuffle the cards in its eternal duel between Snapdragon and Exynos.
