Donald Trump announces the upcoming creation of an “AI Force” dedicated to artificial intelligence based on the model of the American Space Force. The US president also says he will soon appoint an artificial intelligence “czar”, while rejecting calls to slow the development of this technology.
Donald Trump rejects calls to curb AI
In a post on Truth SocialDonald Trump attacked criticism of artificial intelligence and calls to further regulate its development. He says that attempts to stop the sector constitute a ” joke “ and promises “do not obstruct or repress in any way” the growth of this industry.
The US president arrives as several AI industry officials have recently called for the pace of development of the most advanced models to be slowed. Dario Amodei, head of Anthropic, notably advocated a coordinated slowdown to reduce certain risks related to the rapid increase in AI capabilities, while Sam Altman (OpenAI/ChatGPT) and Elon Musk (SpaceXAI/Grok) publicly reacted to this proposal.
Donald Trump claims, on the contrary, that the United States must continue to rapidly develop this technology. It presents AI as a new industrial revolution and regularly highlights technological competition with China as an argument in favor of sustained development.
An “AI force” whose contours remain unknown
The new “AI Force” must follow the model of the Space Force, created during Donald Trump’s first term. The American president, however, did not provide details about his status, his administrative affiliation, his budget or the missions that will be entrusted to him.
Donald Trump also plans to appoint an official responsible for artificial intelligence, whom he calls the “AI czar.” He specifies that the position will be reserved for highly qualified people, but has not given any name or a precise timetable for this appointment.
This role would succeed one previously held by David Sacks, who left his official position as “AI and cryptocurrency czar” in March to become co-chair of the Presidential Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology. However, he remains involved in US policy issues related to AI.
The announcement comes as the United States also debates the risks of AI models and their use in sensitive sectors. The US government already has measures relating, in particular, to the cybersecurity of new models, while Donald Trump says he wants to rely on existing civil and criminal laws to sanction problematic uses instead of creating a new federal authority dedicated to regulating AI.
