Ubisoft Milan has been working on a spin-off of The legend of Zelda putting Ganondorf at the center of the game, before Nintendo rejected the prototype. The project, called Goliath, was given the initial green light before being abandoned after about a year of development.

Ubisoft and Nintendo have already collaborated on two games in the world of Mario and Rabbids licenses: Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle in 2017, then Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope in 2022. The studio reportedly initially pitched a spin-off with a completely new protagonist. Nintendo reportedly gave initial approval to the concept, before asking Ubisoft Milan to make Ganondorf the playable character. The famous antagonist of the series appears regularly in Nintendo spin-offs, particularly in hyrule warriors AND Super Smash Bros.but it rarely remains at the center of an adventure.
Ubisoft Milan would then have spent a year creating a prototype. Nintendo finally rejected it in November, without the precise reasons for this decision being known. There is also no specific information about the genre of the game or the content of the prototype.
The project would have marked the end of the collaboration
After the abandonment of Goliath, Ubisoft Milan would have looked for other projects linked to Nintendo licenses. In particular, the studio would have considered a new game with Mario characters or a Star Fox game.
However, talks between Ubisoft and Nintendo reportedly began to deteriorate in late 2023 and early 2024. Ubisoft Milan then spread its teams across different projects, including developers leaving to work on Beyond good and evil 2.
